Luggage lost at Bangalore

My friend Vishwas Joshi has lost his luggage (one sports kit bag) at Bangalore. While coming to the office from the guest house, Vishwas had kept the bag behind the seat in the auto and promptly forgot about it while getting down.

Nothing much has been lost save his lucky clothes. πŸ™ Vishwas is however very happy that he will be getting a complete makeover for his wardrobe. πŸ˜€

FLASH NEWS: Vishwas just got his bag back (3 cheers for auto drivers) and now he is unhappy that he cannot have new clothes πŸ™

Now that is what is called news

I don’t like to blog about political news. They get updated far too frequently than technology news and makes keeping pace a major deal. This morning during break 2 things however snatched my attention. NDTV India referred to Iraq campaign as invasion – which was not used once but every time the military activity in Iraq was being described. And of course, these news bits on the eve of the Iraqi elections.

Timing as they say is the essence πŸ™‚

Toast your own CD

Long time ago when we were doing the first cut of the Ankur Bangla LiveCD, one of the demonstrations what a distinguished gentleman from the academic world put across a nice question – would it be possible for this project to allow me to pick and choose components so that I can create my custom Bangla CD ? . At that particular point of time, given the other technical issues that plagued the Indic computing (and especially Bangla rendering scene), this was a crazy wishlist. This recent mail on the Kubuntu list was a nice surprise.

Having a web based front-end to a “Toast your Own CD” somewhat like this would be nice idea if someone wanted a CD/distribution customised for an one time purpose eg an XFCE based CD that would allow one to setup print services and servers. Good work. Now, the fun part would lie in ensuring that such a distribution is continuously updated and the repository is up to date. Nice idea to have really – can see some of the LUG chaps trying it out.

Ah well – if wishes were horses

The wife wrote as: so my weekend family would probably become a fortnightly family now. And there are times when this really does hurt. Wish that the job allowed some amount of remote working – wishful thinking… πŸ™

Boy oh boy !!

I purchased the CUPS: Common Unix Printing System (digital edition) today and received a file format that is not readable in Linux. How surprising can that be ? A book for Unix/Linux printing systems being distributed in a format that cannot be read with Linux. If only they sent across a PDF… πŸ™

Ok…so I have some time on my hands today

Hmm…I have some time today to blog so here we begin. What are the newest items that need to be talked about ? First the furniture. We got ourselves a bookshelf and a shoe rack (a real nice piece if you ask me). The house seems to have suddenly filled up with furniture. And boy the room looks nice. If you look closely at the bookshelf, you might just spot a lot of new books. Yes ! – they are new and recently purchased (Trivia – the total value of the furniture is now exceeded by the value of the books within the shelf). Completed reading all the books of the Harry Potter series save the last and finished reading The Hobbit. Add to that list Winning, another Welch and Dracula

The last week was also for one with friend’s – so ate out at some of the joints near Kalyaninagar. If you are in the mood for a quick and nice Chinese meal – you would be tempted to visit Yo China ! which is inside the Gold Adlabs complex. A nice place for sizzlers is Yana’s Sizzlers at the same place – try out some of the steaks. A nice wholesome dinner could be had at Shu’s Jade (which is below our apartment – Floriana Estates) – where by the way you should not ask for Uncle Shu πŸ™‚

If you are around Camp, then the place to be is Mahesh Lunch Home. Be prepared to wait – but the food is worth it especially the crabs. I have had the dubious distinction of eating non-seafood at a seafood joint but then again it was good. The Adlab’s complex/mall at Kalyaninagar has a lot of eating places, so be bold enough to try them out.

The cute little boy in this set of pictures wearing the Fedora is Pooploo and he is the man-in-charge when both of us are away from the house.

ps: Having had a look at this site I should be a more serious about blogging. The blog on the EduDesktop was long overdue anyway
